Police Arrest Motor Vehicle Burglary Suspects
Date: September 7, 2016
On Monday, September 5, 2016, police arrested 3 Newark men on charges of burglary and theft of property from several parked motor vehicles, in addition to the possession of a motor vehicle they had stolen from Montclair earlier the same evening. The arrest of the suspects, 19 year-old Danny Gonzalez, 19 year-old Antonio L. Torres and 18 year-old Isaiah D. Pettus, followed a 10:51 p.m. citizen’s report of an occupied suspicious vehicle on Haller Drive. The caller reported that the three occupants, subsequently indentified as the defendants, exited the car and were observed walking down Haller towards Sherman Avenue. Responding officers located the subjects on Haller and also observed interior lights on in parked vehicles in the immediate area. Subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of the trio after it was determined they had entered at least three parked cars and had stolen numerous items including a mobile GPS device, a debit card, an umbrella and loose change. Investigation also revealed the vehicle they arrived in, a 2005 Chrysler, had been stolen, but not yet discovered as missing by its owner. All three defendants were processed at police headquarters and released pending Superior Court Arraignment in Newark on September 15, 2016. Ptl. Dominick Buscio, Ptl. Michael Passafiume, Ptl. Joseph Johnson and Sgt. Jose Rodriguez were the investigating officers.
