Back on October 1st, 2018 at 08:23 am, an unknown actor had stolen a purse from a parked vehicle at Saint Catherine of Siena Church parking lot. Shortly after there was an unsuccessful attempt to use the victims credit card in Newark, NJ. With the security footage from the Newark attempt along with additional security camera footage from a local business near to the church. The suspect vehicle, a lettered company vehicle, was identify. The operator was a 25 year old male, Michael Reid, of Irvington NJ, a company employee. It was learned that Edison Police had a similar incident in their jurisdiction involving Mr. Reid. Cedar Grove Burglary and theft charges were authorized by the Essex County Prosecutors Office. Then on October 3rd 2018 Cedar Grove Detective attempted to arrest Reid at a residence in East Orange. There was a brief foot pursuit after Reid fled from his moving vehicle eluding police. Essex County Prosecutors Office authorized additional charges of resisting arrest and criminal mischief. Reid was entered into the National Criminal Information Computer System as a wanted person. On October 10th 2018 Reid turned himself in to East Orange Police. He was taken to Essex County Jail to await a bail hearing. The Village of So. Orange Police have also inquired into Mr. Reid regarding similar incident(s) in their jurisdiction. Detective Smigelsky was the lead investigator in this case. “I would like congratulate the Cedar Grove entire detective bureau on the successful outcome of the case, noting their perseverance and professionalism”.
