Subject Apprehended Fleeing Police
December 29th 2019 at 4:27 P.M. Cedar Grove Police arrested an adult male who ran from the scene of a suspicious person investigation. The incident began when Officer Dominick Buscio initiated contact with a subject in the rear parking lot of a Pompton Ave business. Officer Buscio had probable cause that the subject was a wanted person. As the officer conducted his investigation the accused kept moving away toward his apartment despite being told to stop. He then ran up the rear steps fleeing into his second floor apartment and locked the door behind him. This information including the last direction of the suspect was broadcasted to all cars. Still alone Officer Buscio pursued the subject forcing through the locked door into the apartment. Moments later Officer Cassella arrived out front of the business. The fleeing subject escaped out an open apartment window onto an adjacent roof then jumped to the ground. Officers Cassella and Heck who were out front took the subject into custody without further incident. Arrested was Michael Lopez age 36, he was charged with resisting arrest and obstruction of justice. The charges were placed on a warrant and he was transported to the Essex County Jail pending a bail hearing. Lopez was also a wanted person by Passaic County Sheriff’s Department and had a number of additional outstanding warrants.
