Stolen Motor Vehicle Recovery
 
On Monday April 9th 2018 at 07:50am  a resident from Cedar St. reported that their vehicle had been stolen sometime overnight. The vehicle had just been purchased and the resident didn’t realize that a spare Key FOB’s was left in the 2018 Lincoln MKC. Utilizing a cell phone app they were able to track the car to its current location at North 13th Street in Newark. Detective Zajack and Lt. O’Toole drove to that area and began searching for it. The vehicle was located parked and unoccupied. It was processed on scene then driven back and returned to the owners.  Cedar Grove Police would like to warn residents regarding leaving Key FOB’s, in their cars. Criminals are coming into the township specifically targeting those vehicles.

Ends in Burglary Arrest, After Attempt to Elude Police
 
On Monday, April 9th 2018 at 1pm, Cedar Grove Police arrested an adult male, on charges he burglarized a township home. The incident began with a call from an insurance company reporting that a stolen vehicle was being tracked in the area of 100 Ridge Road. Officers began to check for the car. Officer Rivers observed a vehicle parked in the driveway of 88 Ridge Road. The vehicle was occupied by a female. There was also a male loading boxes into the trunk. Officer Rivers exited his car and began to approach the male to make an inquiry of the subject. The male briefly tried to explain what he was doing then fled on foot into the back yard. He ran into the residence, locking the back door behind him. Lt. Kennedy arrived and ran to the opposite side of the house and found the male was starting to climb out of a 1st floor window. The subject slipped back into the house. Officers from Verona and Little Falls arrived to assist. A perimeter was set up. Officers forced their way into the residence where they found the subject hiding under a futon. He was taken into custody without further incident. A subsequent investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen out of Nutley the day before and the male was in the process of burglarizing the residence. The female was wanted by the Essex County Sheriff’s Dept. she was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia then transferred to the custody of Essex County Sheriff’s Dept. The male was also wanted, he was charged, suffered a medical episode, and subsequently transported to an area hospital awaiting clearance for admission to Essex County Jail.

·        22 Year old Christine Garabato of Brooklyn NY
·        43 Year old Andy Rivera of Kearny NJ 

 
All persons charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
