Motor Vehicle Crash with a Pedestrian Struck

Vehicle Operator Arrested Driving While Suspended

 


On Wednesday, January 2nd 2019, at 6:13 pm Cedar Grove Police responded to the area of 82 Route 23 on the report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle. Upon arrival the officers found the pedestrian, a 49 year old female, had been struck by a south bound vehicle while she had been attempting to cross the highway. She was hospitalized with serious injuries to her legs and head.  
                                                                                  
The subsequent investigation revealed the vehicle operator, a 70 year old male out of West Orange, was driving with a suspended New Jersey Driver’s License. The vehicle a 2009 Chevy Aveo had an expired Pennsylvania Registration and there was no proof of insurance. The driver was placed under arrest then transported to police headquarters. After conferring with the Essex County Prosecutors Office, he was charged with a number of motor vehicle violations. He was then released pending a mandatory court appearance. Additional motor vehicle charges are pending. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
 
All persons charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
