On January 30, 2018 at 10:30 a.m., Ptl. Joseph Russomanno took a report of a theft of backup batteries from the AT&T cell tower at 89 Pompton Avenue. A total of eight batteries valued at $400 each were taken from the facility. The incident remains under investigation.
 
On January 30, 2018 at 2:50 p.m., officers responded to Nicholas Markets Foodtown at 597 Pompton Avenue for a shoplifting in progress. Officers were able to stop and arrest the suspect as he attempted to flee in a motor vehicle. It was determined that Richard Burwell, a 48 year old male from East Orange, had shoplifted merchandise from Foodtown and was in possession of a large quantity of merchandise shoplifted from stores outside this jurisdiction. Mr. Burwell was also suspect in a previous shoplifting at Foodtown and was wanted by numerous jurisdictions for shoplifting offenses. He was charged with shoplifting and receiving stolen property. He was turned over to Morris County Sheriff’s Detectives who transported him to the Morris County Jail.
 
On January 31, 2018 at 12:12 a.m., Ptl. Anthony Cardona stopped a vehicle with an inoperable center brake lamp and tinted windows. It was determined that the 21 year old female operator from Lodi was driving with a suspended license. She was arrested processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
 
On January 31, at 12:52 p.m., officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Devonshire Road South. While in route to the scene they were advised that a second caller reported that two suspicious males had been in his home. It was determined that unknown actors approached the homeowner and presented false identification identifying themselves as utility workers. They requested to test house water supply. They homeowner allowed them in and became suspicious when they quickly left the residence. It was determined that the first actor distracted the homeowner in one part of the home while a second actor entered the master bedroom. The actors were last seen fleeing the area in a newer model black Nissan Titan pickup truck. The incident remains under investigation by the detective bureau. Residents should be suspicious of anyone requesting access to their homes. They should contact the police if they believe something is suspicious.
 
On January 31, 2018 at 8:48 p.m., Ptl. Anthony Grigolo stopped a vehicle after it made an unsafe lane change. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the 37 year old female operator from Newark for driving with a suspended license. She was arrested processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
 
On February 1, 2018 at 5:29 p.m., officers responded to the scene of a single car motor vehicle crash on Ridge Road. Arriving officers found the operator, a 27 year old female from Cedar Grove, unconscious in the driver’s seat. The operator, who had regained consciousness, was found to be in possession of heroin and admitted to ingesting it prior to operating the vehicle. She submitted to field sobriety testing and was subsequently arrested for driving while under the influence of an intoxicating liquor or drug. She was processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
 
On February 2, 2018 at 8:21 p.m., Ptl. Michael Passafiume stopped a vehicle with a bracket obstructing the view of the rear license plate. A subsequent investigation revealed that the 35 year old male operator from Newark was driving with a suspended license. He was arrested processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
 
On February 4, 2018 at 1:28 a.m., Ptl. Joseph Ligas stopped a vehicle for speeding along Pompton Avenue. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the 25 year old female operator from Union for driving while intoxicated. She was processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.

            On February 6, 2018 officers investigated a report of a burglary to two motor vehicles at an Eileen Drive address. An unknown actor had entered the unlocked vehicles during the overnight hours. Residents are reminded to remove valuable items and lock all vehicles in their driveways.
 
            On February 9, 2018 at 3:03 p.m., Ptl. Dominick Buscio stopped a vehicle with a cracked windshield and an inoperable brake lamp. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the 29 year male driver from Bethlehem PA for driving with a suspended license. He was processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
 
            On February 9, 2018 at 9:01 p.m., Ptl. Michael Passafiume stopped a vehicle for speeding on Pompton Avenue. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the 38 year old female driver from Montclair for possession of marijuana and driving with a suspended license. She was processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
 
            On February 10. 2018 at 12:26 a.m., Ptl. Christopher Lynch stopped a vehicle with tinted windows. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the 24 year old male operator from West Orange for possession of marijuana and possession of cocaine. He was processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
 
            On February 10, 2018 at 2:41 a.m., Ptl. Michael Passafiume stopped a vehicle for speeding on East Lindsley Road. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the 21 year old male operator from Jersey City for driving with a suspended license. He was processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
 
            On February 11, 2018 at 4:52 p.m., Ptl. Anthony Grigolo stopped a vehicle with tinted windows and an expired inspection decal. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the 28 year old male operator from Kearny for driving with a suspended license. He was processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
 
            On February 12, 2018 at 12:23 a.m., Ptl. Christopher Lynch stopped a vehicle being operated without headlamps. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the 21 year old male driver from Verona and 20 year old female passenger from Long Valley for possession of marijuana. Both were processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.

            On February 14, 2018 at 12:51 a.m., Ptl. Joseph Ligas stopped a vehicle for failing to keep right. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the 21 year old male operator from Lincoln Park for possession of marijuana. He was processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
 
            On February 14, 2014 at 9:00 p.m., Ptl. Anthony Grigolo stopped a vehicle with an inoperable headlight. A subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of an 18 year old male passenger from Woodland Park for possession of marijuana. He was processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
 
            On February 14, 2014at 10:54 p.m., Ptl. Michael Passafiume stopped a vehicle with an obstructed windshield and an inoperable brake lamp. It was determined that the operator, a 28 year old male from Montclair, was driving with a suspended license. He was arrested, processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.

On February 19, 2018 at 8:55 a.m., Ptl. Raymond Cassella stopped a vehicle with tinted front passenger side windows. A subsequent investigation revealed that the operator, a 41 year old male from Lake Hiawatha, had numerous outstanding warrants. He was arrested, processed and released after posting the required bail.
 
On February 19, 2018 at 4:22 p.m., Ptl. Anthony Grigolo stopped a vehicle with tinted front passenger side windows. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the 23 year old male driver from Newark for driving with a suspended license and possession of marijuana. He was processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
 
On February 19, 2018 at 4:38 p.m., Ptl. Dominick Buscio stopped a vehicle with an inoperable brake lamp. It was determined that the 29 year old male operator from Jersey City was driving with a suspended license. He was arrested, processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.  
                                   
On February 19, 2018 at 10:48 p.m., Ptl. Anthony Grigolo stopped a vehicle with inoperable brake lamps. A subsequent investigation revealed that the operator, a 45 year old male from Newark, had an outstanding traffic warrant. He was arrested, processed and released after posting the required bail.
 
On February 20, 2018 at 2:44 p.m., Ptl. Christopher Heck stopped a vehicle after a random license plate check revealed that the operator had a suspended license. The 24 year old driver from Linden was arrested, processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
 
On February 21, 2018 at 6:15 p.m., Ptl. Joseph Ligas responded to the CVS at 1041 Pompton Avenue for a report of a shoplifting in progress. A 42 year old male from Pompton Plains was taken into custody after it was determined that had concealed merchandise in his clothing. He was processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
 

On February 25, 2018 at 1:03 p.m., Ptl. Christopher Heck stopped a vehicle with an inoperable brake lamp and an obstructed windshield. A subsequent investigation revealed that the operator, a 21 year old male from Newark, was driving with a suspended license. He was arrested, processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
