On June 25, 2018 at 10:48 a.m., Ptl. Robert Hectus investigated a suspicious vehicle on Tolstoi Place. The investigation led to the arrest of the 21 year old male driver from Clifton for possession of marijuana. He was processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
 
On June 26, 2018 at 3:13 a.m., Ptl. Christopher Lynch observed a vehicle with an inoperable break lamp being operated on Fox Road. As he turned around the operator turned off all his lights in an attempt to avoid detection. The vehicle was located and stopped on Essex Road. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the 19 year old male driver and 18 year old male passenger, both from East Orange, for possession of marijuana. They were processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
 
On June 26, 2018 at 9:56 a.m., Ptl. Raymond Cassella stopped a vehicle after observing an object hanging from the rear view mirror that obstructed the driver’s view of the road. It was determined that the 20 year old female driver from Bloomfield was operating a vehicle with a suspended license. She was also found to have outstanding warrants. She was arrested processed and released after posting the required bail.
 
On June 30, 2018 at 9:19 p.m., police and fire personnel responded to a Rugby Road address for a heavy smoke condition in the home. The source of the smoke was determined to be a small fire inside the garage. The fire was extinguished by the homeowner with a garden hose. Detectives investigated the fire. It was determined that discarded pieces of used fireworks had been placed in a box in the garage. Those pieces reignited causing the fire.

On July 3, 2018 at 7:22 a.m., Ptl. Kristian Schneider responded to a David Road address to take a report of a suspicious vehicle. The resident observed a black four door vehicle stop in front of her home at approximately 5:20 a.m. She noticed that both passenger side doors were open and then observed two black males walking from the area of her driveway. She yelled and they fled the area in the vehicle. Residents should contact police immediately to report suspicious activity.
 
On July 3, 2018 at 12:55 p.m., Ptl. Kristian Schneider took a report of a stolen vehicle from a driveway on The Fairway. A key fob was left in the vehicle allowing the actor to start the vehicle and drive it away. It was later recovered in Newark. Residents should not leave key fobs in  vehicles parked in their driveways.
 
On July 3, 2018 at 4:38 p.m., police and fire personnel responded to a Rugby Road address on a report of a lightning strike. It was determined that lightning struck a nearby tree. Electricity conducted through a power cord on a fence next to the tree causing a power surge back to the home. Numerous electronic items were damaged along with some of the homes electrical wiring.
 
On July 4, 2018 at 7:55 a.m., Ptl. Raymond Cassella stopped a vehicle for an inoperable center brake lamp. It was later determined that the 30 year old female driver from West Orange was driving with a suspended license. She was also found to have numerous outstanding warrants. She was arrested, processed and released after posting the required bail.
 
On July 5, 2018 at 3:27 p.m., police and fire personnel responded to a Pompton Avenue business for a person stuck in an elevator. The fire department was able to free the victim from the elevator.
 
On July 5, 2018 at 5:41 p.m., Ptl. Michael Passafiume took a report of a stolen all-terrain vehicle from a driveway on West Lindsley Road. This incident is under investigation.
 
On July 6, 2018 at 9:39 a.m., Ptl. John Smigelsky took a report of a burglary to two vehicles in a driveway on Eileen Drive. The vehicles had been left unlocked in the victim’s driveway. It was determined that the burglary occurred during the early morning hours. The incident is under investigation.
 
On July 6, 2018 at 5:10 p.m., Ptl. John Smigelsky took a report of a stolen motor vehicle from an Eileen Drive address. Officers were able to review surveillance video from the residence that showed that the theft occurred at 2:04 a.m. The vehicle, which was later recovered, had been left parked in the driveway with the key fob inside.
 
On July 7, 2018 at 9:05 p.m., Ptl. Anthony Cardona stopped a vehicle for having an excessively loud muffler and an inoperable brake lamp. The 50 year old female driver from North Arlington initially gave a false name and was later determined to be driving with a suspended license. She was arrested, charged and released with numerous summonses to appear in municipal court.

On July 7, 2018 at 10:46 p.m., Ptl. Anthony Grigolo responded to the area of Stevens Avenue and George Street for an individual attempting to enter an unoccupied residence through a sliding glass door. The subject was located on Stevens Avenue near East Lindsley Road. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Simon Strong, a 38 year old male from Elmwood Park. He was charged with burglary to a residence. He was processed and turned over to the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department on an outstanding criminal warrant.

            On July 24, 2018 at 11:14 a.m., Ptl. Michael Passafiume investigated an occupied vehicle parked on the Old Quarry Road side of Mills Reservation. The investigation resulted in the arrest of a 21 year old male passenger from Upper Montclair for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
 
            On July 25, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., Ptl. Kristian Schneider took a fraud report from a victim who received a pop-up on her computer from what she believed to be Microsoft Corporation. She called the number and was told there was a problem with her computer. She allowed the unknown person remote access to her computer and provided personal identifying information before suspecting that it was a fraud.
 
            On July 26, 2018 at 12:30 a.m., Ptl. Joseph Johnson stopped a vehicle after observing that it did not have a front license plate. The operator, a 42 year old male from Bergenfield, was placed under arrest after it was determined that he was driving with a suspended license. He was processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
 
            On July 27, 2018 at 1:37 a.m., Ptl. Joseph Ligas stopped a vehicle for failing to maintain a lane. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of a 20 year old female passenger from Bloomfield for possession of marijuana. She was processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
 
            On July 27, 2018 at 12:20 a.m., Ptl. Raymond Cassella stopped a vehicle for failing to display an inspection decal. A subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of the 22 year old operator from Montclair for driving with a suspended license. He was processed and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
 
            On July 27, 2018 at 2:27 p.m., police and fire personnel responded to a Sweetwood Drive address on a report of smoke in the home. It was determined that the home was stuck by lightening. The home sustained minor damage and was deemed safe by the fire department.
 
            On July 28, 2018 at 9:15 a.m., Ptl. Raymond Cassella stopped a vehicle with an obstructed windshield. It was then determined that the operator, a 42 year old male from East Orange, was driving with a suspended license and was wanted by the Essex County Sheriff’s Department for non-payment of child support. He was taken into custody and turned over to the Essex County Sheriff’s Department.
