Handgun/Firearms ID Card Application

03/24/2020 Update to Firearms due to Corona Virus

The police department is still accepting firearm ID card applications as well as requests for permits to purchase.  T
he commercial fingerprint vendor for the state has been deemed non essential by the Govenor of New Jersey and therefore
 processing may be delayed and we ask that you be patient.

Also deemed non essential are firearm vendors.  Permits to purchase are valid for 90 days.  Permits can be extended for an additional 90 days at the discretion of the Chief of Police.


Firearms, facts and requirements.

         • What are the requirements to purchase a handgun?

Persons wanting to purchase a handgun must be at least 21 years of age.

• What are the requirements to purchase a rifle?

Persons wanting to purchase rifles or shotguns must be at least 18 years old and need to apply for a Firearms Identification card.

• What are the requirements to apply for all applicants?

Can have never been convicted of any degree crime in NJ or the equivalent of such crimes in any other state that has not been expunged or sealed.

Must not be a habitual drunkard, cannot be an alcoholic, must not be drug dependent, must not currently - or have ever been - confined for a mental disorder.

Must not falsify any information on application, must not be prohibited from possessing weapons or ID card from a court order, and must not have any physical defect that would make it unsafe to handle a firearm.

         • Can I get a permit to carry a weapon?
